A GUIDE TO READING LABELS AND SHOPPING SMARTER

OVERVIEW

This programme is designed to educate students on the knack of shopping smart. It includes the art of reading labels and also tips and questions that one must keep in mind before dropping a product from the supermarket shelf into their shopping cart.

THE ART OF READING LABELS

  • There is an emphasis on understanding the layout of the "Nutrition Facts" label. It will be broken down into the key nutrient components such as fats, sugars, sodium, and carbohydrates.

  • There will be tips throughout the workshop that provide participants with recommended amounts of each nutrient which will allow them to compose a dietary plan that does not exceed the recommended limits of consumption.

  • Participants will learn the benefit of adhering to recommended limits through a brief analysis of the dangers of overconsuming certain nutrients.

THE ART OF SHOPPING SMARTER

In this section of the workshop, participants will be part of an analysis of the supermarket shelves. Many aisles, such as the fruit and vegetable one, the bread and grains aisle, and the beverage aisle will be explored. A self-checklist will be provided which will allow one to ask themselves key questions that either deems the product advisable to consume or otherwise.  The benefit of this process is that participants will be more conscious while choosing products and will have the knowledge to know what products are good for them and their families and those that aren't great for the body.

Come and learn the art of reading labels and shopping smarter!

This is a 2 hour workshop with a detailed presentation on both sections followed by an interactive analysis of real-life products from the supermarkets. Participants will also be provided with a pdf guide that they can keep for their personal reference should any doubts arise in the future.
